Lung Mesothelioma - Recent Researches
Lung mesothelioma is a cancer occurring in the lining of the lungs. It is usually caused due to asbestos exposure. There are very few treatment options currently available for treating lung mesothelioma. This can only be controlled to a certain extent. Deaths due to lung mesothelioma are very much possible. In this article we look at some of the recent researches about treating lung mesothelioma and their findings.
In a research done in the University of Western Australia, a lab mouse which was suffering from mesothelioma was administered a special drug. The mouse recovered from the mesothelioma and built up immunity against further occurrence of tumors. The chemotherapy drug was named coramsine. This drug is still under development by pharmaceutical companies. This drug, when used in combination with other drugs that stimulate the immune system to help the body defend itself, holds some promise to treat all forms of mesothelioma, including the lung mesothelioma.
The Australian researchers said that the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy techniques was relatively new and the results were "extremely promising" and human trials are likely to begin soon.
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) conducts research on all types of cancers, including the lung mesothelioma. For understanding research made by NCI to treat lung mesothelioma, one is advised to refer to their website which is at www.cancer.gov.
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is an organization that has been studying the effects of occupational and environmental exposure to asbestos. The Food and Drug Administration is concerned with asbestos contamination in foods, cosmetics, and drugs. Asbestos is the number one cause of lung mesothelioma. Researches on asbestos-caused diseases can be found at the FDA website by searching.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicate all forms of mesothelioma. They can be reached online at www.marf.org to study their research about all varieties of mesothelioma, including lung mesothelioma.
The Mesothelioma Research Foundation of America (MESORFA) - The mission of this organization is to fund those researches that are trying to look for cures for all kinds of mesothelioma. The Foundation has funded the Mesothelioma Laboratory in the USC-Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center located in Los Angeles, California.
The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has responsibilities to regulate the uses of asbestos in all consumer products. Please visit the CPSC website at the address www.cpsc.gov to know more about their research on mesothelioma and the findings.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates general exposure of humans to asbestos in buildings, environment, and water. They can be visited online on at www.epa.gov to know more about their mesothelioma-related researches and their corresponding findings.
In short, lung mesothelioma can be an incurable disease, which can only be controlled to a certain extent. Patients living with lung mesothelioma need all the support from their family and friends. Thus we have looked at some research findings about lung mesothelioma.

How are my chances of getting into medical school looking? Where can I improve?
I'm currently double majoring in microbiology and psychology, and I'm 75% sure that I'm going to add biology as a third major. My GPA right now is only a 2.7 but I had a rough first couple of quarters, and I've been doing much better this quarter. I'm only in my first year of college, so I have a few years to bring it back up to par. I haven't taken the MCAT yet(due to lack of physics classes). I'm assisting my anatomy professor in the dissection of cadavers, organizing a charity event for the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, participating in a team for the Relay for Life, and I've talked to several doctors about shadowing them during surgery.
